About Extraordinary!
Inspired by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic book limited series, Extraordinary! The Grand Unified Multiverse, or G.U.M., is simultaneously a commentary, critique, and parody of mankind's culture and history--past, present, and future--discussed and observed through the lens of all culture, fiction, history, and media that has been created, or as near to all as physically possible. In this way, the trends of human culture can be examined and analyzed and, hopefully, give some insight as to why events of the past happened and even where we may be headed in the future.
Precedent Rule
In establishing the unified history of this crossover, a number of specification have been taken into account, broadly referred to as the Precedent Rule, or the first come, first serve policy. This rule states that, if a date is not given for when a work of fiction takes place, it is assumed that it was set in the year it was made or published, or else when it is estimated to have been first told or recorded. For long-running series, this can apply on a smaller scale where an earlier version of a character or event is generally used in place of later versions of the same, provided they do, in fact, refer to the same character or event--contrast the character of Sherlock Holmes, a specific individual, with the character of Sir Percy the Scarlet Pimpernel, who is one of a line of similar but still distinct individuals, otherwise termed a "legacy character," a persona which has been adopted by multiple distinct individuals during the course of history. That said, there are a number of aversions to the Precedent Rule, which are detailed here. One broad aversion is if a character, event, item, or story has been known and adapted over time to the point that the original incarnation of it is very dissimilar from the generally-accepted later version.
